Answers to the questions we are asked most often about puppies, placement, our waitlist, and what to expect from Wild Peak Canines.
How do I get on the waitlist?
Start by completing the puppy application for the breed you are interested in. Our Golden Retriever application is currently open. Once reviewed, approved applicants may be added to the waitlist for a future litter. Submission of an application does not guarantee placement.
Are puppies placed in order of deposit?
Not necessarily. Our goal is to place each puppy in the home that best fits the individual dog. For Golden Retriever litters, we use Volhard Temperament Testing at 7 weeks along with our observations throughout development. For Great Danes, temperament and family fit remain important, while color preference and structure may also factor into placement.
When do puppies go home?
Puppies typically go home between 8 and 9 weeks of age, depending on the individual litter and puppy.
What registration do puppies receive?
Wild Peak puppies are placed on limited registration unless otherwise agreed upon in writing. Breeding rights are not included in a standard companion placement.
Do puppies come with a health guarantee?
Yes. Puppies are placed with a 24-month health guarantee. Full details are provided in the puppy contract.
What veterinary care do puppies receive before go-home?
Puppies receive age-appropriate veterinary care before leaving Wild Peak Canines, including vaccination, deworming, and microchipping.
How are puppies raised?
Puppies are raised in our home with intentional early development, ENS, ESI, socialization, age-appropriate exposure, individual evaluation, and thoughtful placement. You can read more on our puppy-raising page.
How we raise our puppies →Do you require spay or neuter?
Yes. Our companion-home contract includes breed-specific spay/neuter expectations.
Golden Retrievers: Females should be allowed to mature through at least one heat cycle, and males should not be neutered before 12 months of age unless medically indicated.
Great Danes: Spay or neuter is required no earlier than 18 months of age unless discussed with Wild Peak Canines for health or behavioral considerations.
What happens if I can no longer keep my Wild Peak dog?
Dogs bred by Wild Peak Canines are always welcome back. Our contract requires owners to contact us if they are ever unable to keep their dog so we can help ensure an appropriate placement.
Can I choose a puppy based only on color or appearance?
Preferences are welcome, but placement is based on more than appearance. For Goldens, temperament and fit are prioritized. For Danes, color preference may be considered alongside temperament, structure, and possible show potential.
Do you offer lifetime breeder support?
Yes. We want to remain a resource throughout the life of every dog we produce. Questions about training, development, health, or changing circumstances are always welcome.
